Hope, charity and a positive attitude are my New Year’s resolutions

Hope, charity and a positive attitude are my
New Year’s resolutions

A new year full of endless opportunities is just a few days away and it brings with it twelve whole months of project time to do the things that will make life better for myself and everyone around me.  It’s a whole new year, and as far as I am concerned, it comes with a whole new positive attitude for me.
I have never been one to make New Year’s resolutions because I have never really given my selections that much thought. My resolutions always seemed to be trivial, small and easily forgotten, but this year is going to be different. This year I am thinking big. This year I am going to resolve to make a positive difference in the lives of others and at the same time make a positive difference in my own.
The Christmas season may be over but the reasons for it, hope and charity, do not have to end at all. Hope, charity and giving from the heart are positive actions that bring such rewarding results and they should be put into action more than just one month out of the year.  Putting them into action all year long is exactly what I am going to do.
2013  is going to be a great year. I can feel it and I am going to enjoy it. This year I am going to accomplish great things in each of the aforementioned categories. I am going to give and I am going to receive.
I am going to be a better father to my two daughters, a better son to God and to my ninety-three-year-old father. I am going to be a better friend to all who have given me the gift of friendship,  a better editor for your community newspaper and a better volunteer to everyone in need of my help.
How am I going to do this? I have no idea. All that I am sure of right now is that I AM going to do each and every one of them.
My plan is to take one step, one accomplishment and one day at a time. A friend told me the other day that darkness, negativity and failure cannot exist in a world of light and hope. And because of all the wonderful things that have happened to me in 2012 right here in Seminole County, I am living in a very bright world and you are about to see me shine.
Thankfully, 2012 was not the end of the world as some future forecasters and Hollywood movies had suggested. However, I did wait until after December 21 to mail some bill payments, just in case. The 21st was the end of a cycle on the Myan calendar, but it was not the end of the world. When a cycle ends on our calendar we just flip the page or get a new calendar and start over in a brand new year with our hopes and our plans.
This year I am flipping the page, making my resolutions and resolving to do everything better. Dream it. Believe it. Do it!
Have a safe, happy and prosperous New Year.
