Just the way “Miss” Joanne would have wanted it!

A beautiful service was held last Sunday honoring and remembering Joanne Pierce Drake, the “Coach”,  as she was affectionately known.  The service began with Rev. Nate Leyman presiding.  Sons, Rev. John Drake, Greg Drake and grandson Rev. Pierce Drake gave brief messages reminiscing the impact that “Miss” Joanne had in the molding of their lives.  Gail Drake, daughter-in-law, sang a beautiful rendition of “And Can it Be” by Dan Forrest.  Grand and great grandchildren performed  “Jesus Loves Me” directed by Gail Drake.

The Choir performed “The Majesty and Glory of Your Name” and concluded the service with Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus.”

This lady not only served as organist and choir director of Friendship United Methodist Church for fifty seven years, but began the choral program in Seminole County Schools.  She was an icon in our community and her legacy continues to carry on as music directors follow her leadership teaching and serving others.

In 2013 an annual music scholarship was named in Joanne Pierce Drake’s honor.  She will be missed, but more importantly she will be remembered as making a difference in so many lives.
