Andrew Warner receives Outstanding Young Ag Professional Award; Jeff Braswell was presented with the Chapter President Award
The South Region GYFA Caucus was held November 5 at the Turner County Civic Center in Ashburn, GA. The purpose of the caucus is to award Young Farmer chapters and members for their accomplishments during the year. In addition, nominations are made and voting is conducted to elect a Jr. Director to represent the South Region on the GYFA State Board. Members of the Seminole County Young Farmer Chapter who attended the caucus were Jeff Braswell, Susan Braswell, Ben Dozier, Randy Earnest, Greg Mims, Stephanie Mims, Wes Pace and Emerson Skipper.
The event began with a delicious seafood meal followed by the awards presentation for winning Young Farmer chapters and members. The Seminole County Young Farmer Chapter enjoyed a very successful night of awards. Andrew Warner, Seminole County Extension Agent, was presented with the “Outstanding Young Ag Professional Award” for the South Region. This marked the first time a Seminole County Young Farmer member had received the award. In addition, Jeff Braswell was presented with the “Chapter President Award” for the South Region. Braswell has served as President of the chapter since February of 2017. This marks the fourth consecutive year that Seminole County has won this award with four different leaders. Following the awards presentation, the election for a new South Region Jr. Director was held. Our very own Jeff Braswell was opposed by candidates from Tift County and Turner County. Each candidate spoke to the audience in attendance, and when the delegates finished voting, Braswell was announced the new South Region Jr. Director for the Georgia Young Farmers Association.
The Seminole County Young Farmer Chapter will travel to the GYFA Convention being held February 1 – 2, 2019 in Augusta, GA where these South Region winners will take the stage in hopes of winning state honors. In addition to the Seminole County YF members chosen as winners at the caucus, Dee and Paige Miller will also take the stage with three other region farm family winners in hopes of winning state honors as well. Stan Deal, our current National Young Farmer Educational Association President & GYFA Vice-President will take stage at the convention as well as he seeks the position of GYFA President-Elect for 2019.
The Georgia Young Farmers Association has 58 county associations, and nearly 6,000 members. The South Region has 28 of those 58 counties alone. For 36 consecutive years, the GYFA has claimed the largest Young Farmer membership in the nation. During the last four years, the Seminole County Young Farmers have been recognized for having four “Chapter President” award winners, two “Outstanding Chapter” awards, two State “Farm Family” finalists and an “Outstanding Young Ag Professional” award winner.
The Seminole County Young Farmer chapter still holds the largest membership in Georgia and the nation.
