Most local citizens and all Seminole County Elementary age children are familiar with the Donalsonville Fire Rescue Department’s (DFRD) Fire Safety mascot Sparky the Fire Dog. Recently Sparky was able to upgrade his bright yellow fire suit, boots, helmet, gloves and cool vest thanks to a $3000 grant from the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation.
DFRD Lt. Michael Smith oversaw the grant application process for the Brant Chesney Fire Safety Grant which is in memory of Firefighter Brant Chesney from the Forsyth County Fire Department. Brant, who was killed in the line of duty in 1997, had a passion for educating others about fire safety.
Be on the look out for Sparky to make his first public appearance in his new duds soon.
Pictured here are Donalsonville Fire Chief Dean King, firefighter Gavin Landin, Lt. Smith and firefighter Billy Daniels congratulate Sparky.
