A smoother ride across the railroad tracks on Wiley Avenue will hopefully soon be a reality. The Georgia Department of Transportation announced this week the road and crossing will close for much needed repairs on August 28. Wiley Avenue (State Route 91 Alternate) in downtown Donalsonville is scheduled to close Wednesday, August 28 to allow CSX to repair the railroad crossing between First Street and Crawford Street. The road is expected to close at 8 a.m. and reopen by 3 p.m.
During the closure of the RR crossing northbound Wiley Avenue traffic is requested to go east on First Street, turn north on Tennille Avenue to cross the railroad tracks, and then turn west on Crawford Street back to Wiley. Southbound traffic is requested to go east on Crawford Street, turn south on Tennille Avene and then turn west on First Street back to Wiley.
The date and times are subject to change. Updates will be posted on www.facebook.com/GDOTSW and twitter.com/GDOTSW if the railroad notifies the Georgia Department of Transportation that it has rescheduled repairs.
