Details on how to access and watch the virtual graduation ceremony will be announced as soon as they become available.
Due to the never before seen circumstances caused by the COVID-19 crisis, and the Summer time line of some Seminole County graduating Seniors reporting to various places for their next chapter of life, Seminole County Middle/High School will host a virtual graduation ceremony for everyone on the previously scheduled graduation day of May 22nd, at 7:30 p.m.. “Everyone should agree that every Senior deserves and has earned the right to be honored with a graduation that is allowable at this time,” commented SCMHS Principal Shane Purdy.
On May 22nd, all Seniors who plan to participate in the virtual graduation ceremony need to arrive at the school by 4:30 p.m. in caps, gowns, stoles, etc. The Seniors will park in the faculty parking lot by the tennis courts. Each Senior will be given a designated space, six feet apart, to stand in a line starting with Valedictorian, and followed by the Salutatorian, Honor Graduates by rank and the remaining Senior class members.
From 5 to 6 p.m., the school is encouraging the entire Seminole County community to drive by the school, remaining in their cars, as a salute to the most deserving SCHS graduating class of 2020. Seniors who would like to have their diploma at this time will be able to receive it and display it while family and community members drive by to congratulate them.
Those wishing to drive through to honor the Seniors need to enter the school property from Sheffield Drive. Vehicles of friends and family members will not be allowed to stop for photos and no one will be allowed to exit a vehicle.
At 6 p.m. Seniors will be allowed to leave and go to their homes and watch the virtual graduation.
School officials are still hopeful there will be a time and a plan developed to congregate again for an in-person graduation ceremony before many begin going their separate ways in June, July or August. Details of that event will be announced as soon as they are known.
