On the evening of Monday, September 7 at approximately 10:52 p.m., Donalsonville Police Department (DPD) officers were dispatched to Mr. Pips Auto Truck Plaza on East Third Street in Donalsonville in reference to a reported assault. Upon arrival, DPD Officers Shelby Gale and Zach Poague made contact with the victim, 75-year-old Willie Odom, who, in obvious need of medical attention, had made his way to Mr. Pip’s in an attempt to get himself to the hospital.
Mr. Odom, who resides on Gip Avenue in Donalsonville, told investigators he was inside his residence when he heard a noise. Odom stated he opened the door and several males struck him in his head numerous times with unknown objects, forced themselves into the house and continued to assault Mr. Odom and vandalize and burglarize his property.
After speaking with witnesses, DPD officers were able to develop leads in the case and identify the parties involved. As a result of the investigation, five juveniles were identified as the offenders in this case and were subsequently arrested and transported to Department of Juvenile Justice Centers.
Due to the severity of this case, all five juvenile defendants were charged as adults.
The five defendants were charged with one count each: home invasion robbery, armed robbery, burglary, aggravated battery and aggravated assault.
Mr. Odom was transported to a Dothan hospital for medical treatment and reported to be recovering.
This case is still under investigation and more arrests may be forthcoming.
