In their first full season as an official track team, the girls and boys teams from Seminole County Middle High School finished second overall in Region 1-A. Both teams had state qualifiers, and both teams will send several players to the Area Track Meet to be held on Saturday, May 8 in Camilla.
The Seminole County girls track team’s first place winners included Tytiana Mathis in the 800 meters run; Key’Shyriah West in the 200 meters dash; and Bryanna Hardy in the 100 meters hurdles.
Area qualifiers for the girls team included Key’Shyriah West, long jump fourth place, 100 meters dash second place, and 200 meters dash first place; Bryanna Hardy, triple jump second place, 400 meters dash fourth place, and 100 meters hurdles first place; Tytiana Mathis, 800 meters run first place; Tynora Koonce, 100 meters hurdles third place.
The 4 x100 relay team of Bryanna Hardy, Key’Shyriah West, Tynora Koonce, and Pashan Stamper, and alternates Sierra Barber, Dremia Murphy, Mychaela Beard, and Elizabeth Leal, placed second.
The girls team is coached by Jessi Helms.
“I want to add how proud I am of these girls and how hard they have worked. Every team member did their part at region and because of their teamwork they were successful,” commened Coach Helms.
The Seminole County boys track team had one first place winner. Dequawn Moore bested the competition in the 3200 meter run.
Area qualifiers for the boys team included Tay Brown. high jump third place, and triple jump third place; Nick Cull, long jump fourth place , and 100 meters dash fourth place; ZyGarrion Brown, discus second place; Dequawn Moore. 3200 meters run first place, and 1600 meters run third place; Diego Luevano 3200 meters run third place; Bryce Moore, 300 meters hurdles fourth place; Brian Sims, 400 meters dash second plac.
The 4 x 400 relay team of Brian Sims, Zygarrion Brown, Devin Williams, and Tay brown placed second. The 4 x 800 relay team of Brandon Wilson, Lavarus Hutchins, Donnell Hutchins, and Bryce Moore also placed second.
The boys team is coached by Nikki Carlisle.
