Lions Mitchell Blanks and Eloise Taylor are coordinating the Lions Club’s hurricane victim supply drive
In our community’s darkest days following Hurricane Michael, car, van and truck loads of much needed supplies began to pour in from countless strangers. We survived and began to rebuild our new normal lives thanks in a large part to those selfless acts of compassion. It is now our turn to become those countless strangers and send packages of hope and supplies to those in Louisiana who have been tragically affected by Hurricane Ida.
The Donalsonville Lions Club, under the leadership of Lions Eloise Taylor and Mitchell Blanks, is coordinating a needed supply drive that will run through September 24. The club requests residents to drop off items at the former fire station facility on Woolfork Avenue in downtown Donalsonville. Items may be dropped off Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and from 8 a.m. until 12 noon on Saturdays. For added convenience, if you purchase items to donate at Piggly Wiggly you can place the items directly into a donation box at the store.
After the 24th, all items collected will be shipped to the Houma Lions Club in Houma, Louisiana for distribution to those in need.
Items needed include cleaning supplies: bleach, buckets, household cleaner, laundry detergent, dish soap, scouring pads, sponges, towels, trash bags, mops, brooms, paper towels; personal items including face masks, hand sanitizer, gloves, soap, washcloths, toilet paper, toothbrushes, toothpaste, aspirin, bandages, wipes, thermometers, feminine hygiene products; food related items including canned food, metal can openers, crackers, cereal, nuts, granola bars, dried fruit, sports drinks, ice chests, napkins, plates, and plastic cutlery. Disposable diapers and yard tools are also being accepted.
Clothing is not being accepted at this time.
