Construction enters its fifth month of an updated bridge on State Route 45 north of Iron City. State Route 45 in Seminole County at Dry Creek north of Iron City closed to non-local traffic on Tuesday, November 30. Construction, which was originally announced to take six months, will continue to require a detour through the month of May.
The former bridge on that road was built in 1972 and is in the process of being replaced by one with wider shoulders and slightly wider travel lanes. Detour roads designated are SR 91, SR 38 and SR 310.
The contractor was permitted to close SR 45 for 180 calendar days. That time period is set to expire at the end of May.
The work to be done in Seminole County, along with a bridge replacement in Brooks County, represents approximately $3.8 million in construction to bring bridges that meet current design standards to Southwest Georgia.
