During the pandemic, Senior Centers closed all across the state. This left groups that were used to gathering weekly displaced and isolated. The Seminole County Commissioners saw the need in the community and have been developing plans to reopen the Seminole County Senior Center with a full slate of activities.

Through a collaborative effort with Seminole County Family Connection, and a mini grant Family Connection received for Senior Activities from the SOWEGA Council on Aging, that opportunity has become a reality. On Thursday, May 26th at 10 a.m. the center will reopen for a community Bingo event.

“All of the community’s senior citizens, along with additional interested residents, are invited to come out for a fun event and for the opportunity to win some great BINGO prizes,” commented Billie McLendon, Seminole County Family Connection Coordinator.

County Commissioners, as well as Family Connection representatives are working to develop a full slate of fun events for local seniors. The collaborative and commissioners plan to form a council of seniors to help plan ideas for the upcoming months. In addition to the planned BINGO event, additional  activities are being discussed and include a book club, exercise classes, a plant class, and a painting class.

So, if you are a senior citizen, make plans to attend the center’s reopening kick-off event on Thursday, May 26th at 10 a.m..
