Citywide burn ban suspended
Due to the recent rainfall in the area and somewhat cooler temperatures, the City of Donalsonville burn ban has been lifted by the Donalsonville Fire and Rescue Department. In suspending the ban, fire department officials reminded residents that only piles of limbs and leaves that fall from vegetation on your property are permitted to be burned.
A burn permit is required for all burning and can be obtained by calling the Donalsonville Fire Rescue Department at 229-524-2117.
Weather conditions must be suitable for burning in order for a permit to be issued and those conditions are checked daily by the fire department.
Donalsonville Fire and Rescue Department Chief Dean King commented, “It is recommended that someone monitors the burn pile with a garden hose or bucket of water on standby. While burning, if you feel the fire is getting out of control call 91 immediately and request for the fire department to respond. Most of all be safe.”
