In a wonderful long-standing tradition, Steffey Vines, Rejoice Run and Mom’s Mile race founder, presented Donalsonville Hospital with a generous $8,000 donation to help sponsor free mammogram screenings for the month of October.

Steffey said, “I hope that every year, this donation to our local hospital reminds women in our community to take care of themselves. Whether by getting a mammogram if they are over 40 or scheduling their annual skin check, even just having an annual visit with their doctor. Rejoice Run is about
celebrating the lives and health of women and the people that love them.”

April Massey, Assistant Administrator at Donalsonville Hospital said, “We are so thankful to the Rejoice Run. Steffey continues to help bring awareness of early detection and prevention in our community through this annual race. Donalsonville Hospital is proud to offer the best in 3D mammography diagnostic testing and the earlier screening we can do, the better outcomes there are for patients.”

The Radiology Department at Donalsonville Hospital makes screening patients for Breast Cancer during the month of October a special event. Donalsonville Hospital is fortunate to have two registered mammographers.  Deidre Harrell R.T.(R)(M)(ARRT) is the hospital’s lead mammographer technologist,  and Rebecca Bass, R.T.(R)(M)(ARRT), performs screening mammograms on Saturdays.

All October free mammogram screenings must be ordered and scheduled by a provider. Please call your doctor’s office and they will make an appointment for you at Donalsonville Hospital.

This year’s Rejoice Run and Mom’s Mile races will be held October 21st at 8 a.m. in Donalsonville. Participants do not have to run the 5K to register! All fitness levels are welcome, and everyone is encouraged to participate as many will walk the certified course instead of run.

Pre-registration ($30) for the Rejoice Run and Mom’s Mile race and walk which kicks off the community’s Harvest Festival’s events closes on October 20.  Race Day registration is $35.

Register early for $30. Registration can be done online at, or you pick up a registration form at Chamber of Commerce, Bishops Jewelers, or Roberts Pharmacy.

Event day registration and check in starts at 6:15 a.m. at the historic Fire Station facility on Woolfork Avenue.

The race course is now certified by USATF, and Bailey Race Management will return this year as the official race timers.

The One-Mile Fun Run/Walk will start at 8:00 a.m. The 5K Run will start at 8:30 a.m., and  the awards presentation will immediately follow the 5K.

Awards will be given out to all one-mile Fun Run/Walk participants. 5K Awards will go to the first through third overall finishers in each age division.

The purpose of the event, as in each of the previous runnings of its predecessors  is to raise awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer here in Seminole County.  Race organizer, Steffey Vines’ mom, the late Anne Coirini, is the namesake for Mom’s Mile. Anne was diagnosed with breast cancer in November of 2004 after a routine mammogram.

“This annual fundraiser directly benefits our community by providing FREE Mammograms at Donalsonville Hospital every October and we need your support this year more than ever. Come joins us!” added Vines.
