No Monkey Business town hall meeting to be held September 19
Opponents of the proposed monkey breeding facility in Bainbridge will be hosting a question and answer session here in Seminole County on Thursday, September 19. The town hall style meeting will be held at the Osceola hotel on Second Street in downtown Donalsonville beginning in 6:30 p.m.
Safer Human Medicine, a company created by former executives of animal experimentation companies, has proposed the largest monkey-breeding and holding facility in the country in Bainbridge.
The facility, which would raise monkeys for future medical testing, would have the capacity to hold 30,000 monkeys – twice the human population of the town.
The proposed facility, to be located just west of the Flint River in Bainbridge, would generate massive amounts of biological waste on a scale never seen in the U.S. According to the company, at full capacity, it would generate 444.000 gallons of wastewater a day.
The entire community is invited to attend.
