Abbie Helms and Brinn Womack top winners in Market Hog Show winners

The annual Donalsonville /Seminole County Chamber of Commerce Market Hog Show was held Saturday, February 14 at the Ag Center on Town and Country Rd. south of town where 4-H, FFA, and Pre-club members exhibited barrows and gilts at the show. A Grand and Reserve Champion of each gender was selected and from these Grand Champions a Supreme Champion was chosen. 

The Supreme Champion of the Show was also the Grand Champion Gilt, shown by Abbie Helms. 

The Grand Champion Barrow was shown by  Brinn Womack, who also showed the Reserve Champion barrow.

The Reserve Champion Gilt was shown by Mindy Shattles.

The Judge for the show was Brandon Burr.

The Austin Brackin Sportsmanship Award was awarded to Grayson Temples

The Larry Jr. and Brent Fennell Scholarship Award sponsored by the Donalsonville/Seminole County Chamber of Commerce went to Jada Coachman

Nolan Helms was the recipient of the Lemuel Ross Elementary Showmanship First Place Award, sponsored by Martha Ross and Seminole County Young Farmers.

The Calvin Atkinson Outstanding Up & Coming Show Team Member, sponsored by Calvin Atkinson’s Family, was presented to Jacob Smith; presenting the award were Melissa Atkinson, Seth Atkinson, Kristin Atkinson, Chanley Atkinson, and Zeke Atkinson, Bailey Walden, and Brooklyn Walden.

The New Exhibitor (kindergarten-fifth grade) Showmanship first place award  went to Lance Womble, with Harper Temples in second place.

The Bryant Garland New Exhibitor kindergarten-fifth grade Showmanship award also went to Lance Womble. The Bryant Garland New Exhibitor sixth-twelfth grade Showmanship Winner was Preston Smith.

Following the New Exhibitor class were the regular Showmanship classes. New Exhibitors were given the chance to show again in regular classes giving them a little more practice. These classes were divided into three groups: 

Kindergarten – fifth grade showmanship (two heats) – placing were: first Nolan Helms, Chanley Atkinson, Brooklyn Walden, J.D. Womble, Grayson Temples, Harper Temples, Lettie Morris, Lance Womble, Zeke Atkinson, and Chase Womble.

The first place winner, sixth – eighth grades showmanship, was Jacob Smith, followed by Charlee June Herrington and Bracyn Phillips.

Senior showmanship, ninth – twelfth grades, were first place Brinn Womack, Abbie Helms, Mindy Shattles, Drew Smith, Addy Eakin, Preston Smith, and Jada Coachman.

Preliminary winners of the Barrow Weight Classes were (first place winner followed by second, third, fourth, fifth and other exhibitors):

Class 1 Barrows (215-240 – four barrows) – Brinn Womack, Mindy Shattles, Drew Smith, and Drew Smith.

Class 2 Barrows (248-250 – four barrows) – Brinn Womack, Lance Womble, Jada Coachman, and Chase Womble.

Class 3 Barrows (260-290 – six Barrows) – Charlee June Herrington, Bracyn Phillips, J.D. Womble, Zeke Atkinson, Harper Temples, and Grayson Temples. 

Preliminary winners of the Gilt Weight Classes were (first place winner followed by second, third, fourth, fifth and other exhibitors):

Class 4 Gilts (215-216 – four gilts) Chanley Atkinson, Jada Coachman, Chase Womble, and Addy Eakin.

CLASS 5 Gilts (222-243 – seven gilt) Nolan Helms, Jacob Smith, Abbie Helms, Brooklyn Walden, Harper Temples, Raegan Bundy, and JD Womble.

CLASS 6 Gilts (246-260- seven gilts) Abbie Helms, Mindy Shattles, Lance Womble, Preston Smith, Bracyn Philips, Grayson Temples, and Lettie Morris.

Ribbons and trophies were sponsored by Three Notch EMC. 

Supreme Champion trophy and four silver trays for Grand and Reserve Champions were given by an anonymous donor.
