Billy Fain retires as Executive  Director of the Seminole County Recreation Department

Billy Fain, longtime director of the Seminole County Recreational Department, has announced his retirement effective today, February 29. Fain retires after 25 years of service to Seminole County’s youth and sports world, working 13 years through the Donalsonville Lions Club and 12 years with the Seminole County Recreation Board and County Commissioners.

A search for Fain’s replacement  has begun; however,  in the meantime the management of the recreation department’s facilities and programs will be handled directly by the Recreation Department’s Board of Directors.

Board chairman Wes Baldwin commented, “I want to thank Billy for his tireless service and dedication to the recreation department, and salute him for the positive impact he has had in the lives of countless youth in our community.

Spring sports have begun with one of our largest groups ever and we look forward to building on the success accomplished in the Fain era and work to provide even more recreational opportunities for Seminole County’s youth and adults alike with the vision to use  the recreation department’s facilities as a tool to better connect and serve the entire community.”

Fain commented, “It is with mixed feelings that I am retiring from being the director of the Seminole Recreation Department. I have enjoyed my tenure and appreciated the opportunity to work with the children, parents, and sponsors of this program.  Thank you to those coaches who gave of their time to help these young people in their walk of life. Last but not least, thank you to Mitch Royals and all of the umpires and referees who gave of their time.  Thank you Mitch for your loyalty to the young people of this community as a great volunteer umpire. Thanks again for allowing me the opportunity to watch my children and my grandchildren grow up on the fields of Davis Park and the Seminole County Recreation Park.”
