Watch out for the Literacy Bus!

This innovative literacy initiative of the Seminole County School System aims to make reading accessible and enjoyable for all students in the county. Unlike the Bookmobile which focuses on book checkouts, the Literacy Bus offers reading experiences and extension activities designed to excite students about reading.
The bus – operated by Seminole County School System media specialists Rendy Godwin and Kelly Earnest, and its driver Mitch Royals – is scheduled to visit various neighborhoods for the next two weeks. The Literacy Bus will also schedule stops at accessible locations like libraries, community centers, and other central spots around the county.
The project is the result of a year-long collaboration between Seminole County Middle High School’s Levi Dunn and his Ag Mechanics Class, Dusty Smith, Rob Blackburn, Superintendent Mark Earnest, Media Specialists Godwin and Earnest, and Technology Director Kristi Johnson. Students began work on the bus last August, transforming it from a traditional bus into a mobile classroom complete with lighting, built-in workstations, and shelving.
The project was funded by the L4GA literacy grant, highlighting the local school system’s dedication to enhancing literacy among its students. The Seminole County School System is very proud and excited to bring this opportunity to our students and the community and appreciates the support from the county and local citizens who provided locations for parking the bus.
The bus’ traveling schedule is posted bellow, as well as on both schools’ social media platforms, and copies are also available at the schools’ front offices.
Please note that the bus will not operate during inclement weather.
