Fire Department to conduct fire hydrant testing and maintenance during the month of March

The Donalsonville Fire and Rescue Department will conduct  its annual fire hydrant testing during the month of March.

Residents are advised that the water from faucets may change color temporarily during this time; however, it will clear up quickly and does not pose any type of health risk.

Fire departments are required to flow test 100% of fire hydrants in their service area annually, and test readings on 25% of them at a different time. This ensures the hydrants are working properly and have adequate water volume and pressure to fight fires with.

“It also helps keep our city homeowners insurance rates down,” commented DF&RD Fire Chief Dean King.

The City of Donalsonville currently enjoys a Class 3 ISO rating. Class 1 is considered the best, and a Class 10 rating the worst.
