Donalsonville collects 17.74 tons of trash during March’s cleanup days
The City of Donalsonville wrapped up a successful March cleanup campaign, collecting over 17.74 tons of trash during its Community Cleanup Days initiative. The event, held on two designated days in March, encouraged residents to clean up their yards and neighborhoods, placing items and litter near the roadway for pickup by the City’s Sanitation Department.
This effort was facilitated by local government leaders and the Southwest Georgia Regional Commission, and was sponsored through a grant from the Southwest Georgia Environmental Stewardship Program. The initiative reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility and community pride.
Mayor Ron Johnson, Jr., who was instrumental in securing the grant that made the project possible, emphasized the importance of investing in the community he calls home.
“I grew up in Donalsonville, and I care deeply about the people who live here,” said Mayor Johnson. “This initiative is just one example of how we can work together to build a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant city — one that every resident can be proud to call home.”
City Manager Jeff Hatcher praised the cooperative spirit of the event and the dedication shown by residents and City departments.
“Our goal is always to support a cleaner, healthier community,” Hatcher said. “By working together, we showed what can be accomplished when local government and residents unite with a shared purpose.”
From overgrown yards to bulky waste and roadside litter, residents helped clear and dispose of debris, contributing to a cleaner and more welcoming environment throughout the city.
The City of Donalsonville is already planning future events to promote sustainability, environmental stewardship, and civic engagement.
