Dallas Waddell and the Back Porch Pickers to begin musical pickin’ sessions at the Senior Center on the first Friday of every month

Dallas Waddell has been
pickin’ most all of his life, starting when he was twelve years old. He says he wants “To pay back the privilege of growing up here to the people of Seminole County and the surrounding areas.”

The way he has chosen to do this is by providing musical entertainment for local senior citizens, along with any others who are interested, and is starting what he calls the Back Porch Pickers. This is an effort to keep alive the old tradition of “picking” – picking guitars, banjos, fiddles, etc. – and attempting to pass it along to the younger generation.

To kick off this endeavor, he has chosen to present a group at the local Senior Citizens Center, once a month, on the first Friday beginning at 5:00 p.m.  The session will last approximately two hours, allowing plenty of time for attendees to get home before dark. There is no charge to attend, but donations will be accepted.

The first performance, scheduled for Friday, May 2 at 5 p.m. at the Senior Center, will feature musical selections from the Sand Hill Sisters from Marianna, Florida

Waddell says he plans to try this for six months, to see how it goes, with the possibility of extending.
