Thrilla in Camilla!
Indians defeat Eagles 36-32, Open state playoffs at home
On a spooky Halloween night, October 31, the Seminole County Indians traveled to Camilla to take on the Mitchell County Eagles. This was more than just another Region competition. This game would determine the Indians’ placement in the State Playoffs and the option of hosting the playoffs at home as opposed to traveling.
As most games have proven to be in the past concerning Seminole County and Mitchell County, it was a tough fight to the finish. The final minute of play in the game left a story worth being told as both teams continued to go back and forth with strong plays and athletic showmanship. It was indeed a thrilla in Camilla. The Seminole County Indians scored the winning touchdown on a 64-yard run with 48 seconds left and headed home with a hard fought, 36-32 victory that clinched second place in the Region! The Indians ended the regular season with a record or eight wins to just one loss.
The offense was rolling once again under the leadership of Junior Quarterback Ellis Denham. Denham facilitated throughout the night with the help of Kamauri Johnson, Kamauri Smith, Braelyn Williams, Zakari Henderson, Avari Leonard, and Christian Kimble. Receiving leaders were Zakari Henderson with 44 yards and one touchdown, and Avari Leonard with 20 yards. Rushing leaders were Kamauri Johnson with 94 yards and one Touchdown and Kamauri Smith with 183 yards and three touchdowns.
The Indians’ offense finished the night with 373 total yards. Special teams looked great as well with Senior Leader Dillon James going three for four on PATs and one for one on field goal attempts.
The defense was consistently dominant throughout the night under the leadership of Senior Zakari Henderson with 15 tackles including three tackles for a loss and Sophomore Braelyn Williams with 10 tackles including one tackle for a loss and a fumble recovery. This lights-out defense ended the night with 38 total tackles including seven for a loss with three total sacks.
The Indians continue to roll and are getting geared up to host Washington- Wilkes in the first round of the State Playoffs at home in Seminole Stadium on Friday, November 14th. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Come out and support this exceptional team and Coaching Staff!
